There are various reasons, why an employer uses Termination Letter against the employees. These factors include, poor performance, misconduct, negligent and so on. But offering a Termination Letter is not so simple, as there is Employment Law, which protects the right of the employees and carries stipulations, which should be carried forward for employees’ relations.

Again, the employer may be at the receiving end, if the terminated ex-employees or dissatisfied employees creates any disputes, which bears penalty for the employer in Employment Law. These reasons make it necessary that, while terminating the service of the employee, the employer should consult labor experts and fully comply with the Employment Law.
The terminations of the employee are mainly due to not performing well, act of misconduct and redundancy. But before offering the termination letter, it is wise to consult company labor experts, trade unions, informing employee of his right to appeal against the termination, provide at least the minimum statutory notice periods and remuneration.
Basically, there are two types of Termination Letter offered to the employees and that includes:
- Termination Letter – For Cause: This termination letter is given to the employee for a cause, such as “poor work quality”. The work of the employee may not be up to the standard or mark. His work performance quality may be poor, which demands the immediate termination from the employment.
- Termination Letter – Unsatisfactory Probationary Period: In this case, the main reason for giving Termination Letter is for situations, where the employee was given sufficient time or probationer period to prove his skill or work performance but failed to meet the desired expectations of the employer regarding his work performance.
The employee Termination letter should start by summarizing the working history of the employee with the company and reasons, which has been compelled for his termination or dismissal. If the reasons are more than one or many then instead of going in detail, main point can be mentioned. The letter should show honesty and truthfulness of the employer and not any ill conceived design for the termination. He should be compliant and compassionate and within the legal parameter for termination.
